After reading about the Nuture egg donation programme on Tanya’s website, Rattle & Mum, I immediately popped onto the Nurture donor registration page and created a profile. It was so automatic. I had always wanted to do something like this, but it’s almost that because the recipient wasn’t actually knocking on my front door, I didn’t know where or how to go about it. And then came the wonderful ladies at Nurture.
I’ll admit, the application form was long, and because my mom passed away just over 11 years ago, it took some investigative work to get all the required information together. It made me quite sad, at the same time, not having my mom at the end of a phone call to ask her about her pregnancies, her childhood and other things that only really adult women chat to their moms about. My mom was 18 when my mom died. All I ever did was fight with her about petty teenage things. I rolled my eyes a lot and didn’t really take anything she said to heart. But, here I am now. So I completed the application, taking the time and thought to complete each section to the best of my ability. Questions about my medical history, the medical history of my parents, sibling and even grandparents. Then a section about me: what I like, my hobbies, what kind of person I am etc. Although lengthly, the application also allowed me time assess what I have … what I’m lucky enough to have. I uploaded pictures of myself as a child, from infacy to the toddler years.
